HIGHLIGHTS

  • Collaborated with the Hines to provide a stormwater recovery and reuse system that contributes to the 40% reduction in water use in the building.
  • The system will contribute to the LEED Platinum, wired Platinum and WELL building certification it is expected to receive upon completion of the project.
  • System robustness, ease of installation, and reduced maintenance frequency meets and surpasses the goals of one of Canada’s major builder’s EllisDon and Global investors Ivanhoé Cambridge.

Solution

The stormwater reuse system utilized ozone based treatment to condition the water for proper disinfection of bacteria and viruses.  The ozone and filtration system removes the color, metals, TSS and corrects the UVT so that the UV disinfection system can disinfect effectively.

The groundwater system used chlorine chemical oxidation, media filtration and physical filtration to condition the water for reuse.

Chlorine residual is maintained in the treated potable water to minimize the potential biofilm growth in the non-potable distribution system.

The final packaged design was optimized to comply with spatial constraints while still surpassing internal hydro-testing and achieving ESA certification. The system is control via a PLC controller with an HMI screen which connects to the BAS providing the smartest and most up to date, self sustaining system to inform us of maintenance requirements and track water consumptions levels.
