Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre

March 23, 2018

In the summer of 2017, the Ontario Gaming and Lottery Corporation announced the construction of a new 5,000 seat entertainment centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The new theatre venue will be built on Stanley Avenue beside the Hilton Hotel with easy access to the Fallsview Casino.

Part of the development requirement was to provide strategies for stormwater management including retaining a portion of the rainwater onsite. The client chose to reuse the water for toilet/urinal flushing and irrigation. Faced with several site constraints, Net Zero Water worked with Plan Group to design a robust and reliable rainwater harvesting system and provided concepts, options, drawings and written specifications.

Reliability is the most important consideration in this design. Due to site constraints, the cistern had to be installed above grade and indoors. Dependable water supply to the non-potable distribution is critical for the entertainment venue. Also critical is proper treatment of the rainwater for use inside a public facility. The size and cost of the system had to also be taken into consideration to optimize competitiveness.

The turn-key rainwater harvesting system needed to be well designed and reliable in a high volume commercial application. Net Zero Water also selected a fibreglass cistern for it’s robust design, material, dimensions and ease of installation. The Net Zero Water treatment system was designed to be compact, configured for ease of maintenance, skid mounted and complete with stainless steel pipe and fittings. The system also incorporated a Net Zero Water control panel with colour HMI screen and communications to Building Automation System. As part of all Net Zero Water’s turn-key solutions, system commissioning, testing and training is included in the purchase of the system to ensure system operation and reliability for years to come.
